Even without a healthy dose of Kahlua, there is something about a bowl of ice cream that feels a little naughty. The kind of treat that you absolutely savor, looking forward to at the end of a meal. But add in a splash (ok, maybe a little bit more than a splash) of coffee liqueur, and you’ve got something decadent that just cannot be matched.
I usually use a tiny bit of vodka in my ice cream recipes, just to slightly lower the freezing temperature. I’ve had a number of readers ask whether the recipes would work without alcohol, if you want to serve them to kids. Generally, my answer is yes — however, with this one, it is (quite obviously) just not meant for children. You’re not cooking off any of the alcohol in this recipe, so serve this at your next adult’s-only dinner party. Or better yet, on your next girls’ night out!
Kahlua Ice Cream Recipe
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup Kahlua
Whisk together the vanilla, sugar, milk, cream and Kahlua. Pour into an ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Transfer to a container and freeze several hours or until firm. Serve.
Makes about one pint of ice cream.
