beauty: golden eyes

I was starting to feel that I’ve been in a little bit of a makeup rut. I used my two favorite products (Laura Mercier foundation and Benefit Smokin Eyes) and basically nothing else for, um, well, about SIX MONTHS NOW. For someone who’s into fashion and beauty, that’s a little bit unacceptable.

But last week, I attended an event where makeup pro Sam Fine talked us through the best beauty picks from (gasp) Duane Reade. For you non-New-Yorkers, Duane Reade is a CVS/Walgreens-type store that’s been seriously renovating a number of its locations lately — they’re bright, spacious and totally modern (a major rarity in Manhattan, sigh). We were given a $25 gift card to test out some of the beauty items in the store and I figured it was a great chance for me to experiment a little bit (I know that theoretically you can return beauty products to drugstores if you don’t like them, but let’s be honest, does anyone really do that?). I picked out two of these L’Oreal eyeshadow duos, in blue/green and brown/smimmer, and this one is the brown.

Big success, I think. The shimmer is subtle enough for every day, but I think it makes my eyes look a lot brighter and bluer. I’ve always heard that brown eyeshadow is best for blue eyes, so I think I’ll be wearing this quite a bit!

These gorgeous bracelets were sent over by Raquelle Bianco, an Italian jewlery line. I’m a huge fan of enamel bracelets (Hermes, yum) and these are just a gorgeous, fun way to add an extra bit of print to an outfit!

On me: Forever 21 tank/dress (it’s a dress… really, it is…), Betsey Johnson tights, Guess heels, Raquelle Bianco bracelets (one gifted, two borrowed).

Gosh you have such pretty eyes! I’ve also heard that you’re supposed to wear eye shadows that are “opposite” your natural eye color to make them pop. The pink eyeshadow in your earlier post certainly did the trick as well!

I ADORE enamel bracelets. I stocked up a J. Crew when I worked there earlier this year. I like the jingly noise they make :)

I love your outfit, you look absolutely great in those colors!!!
And I can definitely relate with the Makeup rut…. I keep on browsing the Sephora website and never make up my mind.

Ohhh the shadow looks great on you! You have fantastic eyes already, though. I struggle with makeup a lot, so this was great for me to read. Love your dress, too!

Aww, so pretty! And I really like that tank/dress too – I’m such a sucker for sequins and sparkly things. :)

It’s funny you mention Duane Reade… when we were up there a few weeks ago, I kept commenting on how DR is on practically EVERY street corner. Craziness.

Thanks guys!  Julie, you have to check out the one at Union Square — it’s like this crazy, bright suburban grocery store.  And there’s never a line!

Julie, I’ll try to dig up a link for the top!

I love your bracelets!  I also have blue eyes and my favorite eye shadows are always in the brown family.
