casual peplum

Truth be told, I haven't worn that many peplums on Sugarlaws, and not because I don't love them -- actually, I do. But at first this trend was so obviously a trend (read: something that will look dated three seasons from now) that I hesitated to embrace it, just because I wasn't sure how long it would last.
But one nice thing about trends is that as they become more popular, they also become quite a bit more wearable. While dramatic peplums are beautiful, I'm never going to put one on to run to the grocery store on a Saturday, you know? So I love the introduction of more casual, low-key peplums. Tops like this one are just perfect for taking a trend and making it wearable for everyday life, and the crochet gives it such a cute, boho feel. Obsessed!
On the flip flops... I know you're supposed to outgrow them when you become a real adult, but Chad and I somehow never did. Our neighborhood is essentially a little college town, walkable from Rice and where students go out for dinner, ice cream, coffee, etc. When I wear heels to walk to Starbucks, I look... a little odd. It's actually kind of wonderful to have a go-to pair of flip flops that are comfy and cute (and from a Texas designer, to boot)! And I have to give them extra love because $3 of every pair goes to help families pay for medical care for kids with cancer -- I love it when great style supports a great cause!
