Truth be told, I haven’t worn that many peplums on Sugarlaws, and not because I don’t love them — actually, I do. But at first this trend was so obviously a trend (read: something that will look dated three seasons from now) that I hesitated to embrace it, just because I wasn’t sure how long it would last.

But one nice thing about trends is that as they become more popular, they also become quite a bit more wearable. While dramatic peplums are beautiful, I’m never going to put one on to run to the grocery store on a Saturday, you know? So I love the introduction of more casual, low-key peplums. Tops like this one are just perfect for taking a trend and making it wearable for everyday life, and the crochet gives it such a cute, boho feel. Obsessed!

On the flip flops… I know you’re supposed to outgrow them when you become a real adult, but Chad and I somehow never did. Our neighborhood is essentially a little college town, walkable from Rice and where students go out for dinner, ice cream, coffee, etc. When I wear heels to walk to Starbucks, I look… a little odd. It’s actually kind of wonderful to have a go-to pair of flip flops that are comfy and cute (and from a Texas designer, to boot)! And I have to give them extra love because $3 of every pair goes to help families pay for medical care for kids with cancer — I love it when great style supports a great cause!

My mom is 66 and she still wears her flip flops all summer!  In fact we both have the same two pair of Tommy Filfiger flops that are adorable and ridiculously comfortable.  I am currently breaking my company’s dress code by wearing mine right now (hee hee)!

That top is so gorgeous! I love the detail on it! And I agree, I don’t wear the crazy peplums but I’ve been embracing the lighter ones

I love both the top and shorts. It creates a very simple yet elegant look. :)
