Today was so amazing at the C. Wonder store opening!

I’ve honestly never seen anything like it — an hour before the store opened, there was already a line around the block!  It was pretty amazing to see the actual store after getting a tiny preview of their jewelry and home goods during fashion week.  I expected it to be great, but even I was completely blown away!

If you guys weren’t one of the three thousand (!) people who made it out today, be sure to come by Sunday between 11 and 3 and come say hi!  72 Spring Street in SoHo — and I’ll be decked out in my new favorite blazer… Below!

movers are here!

September 29th, 2011 · 8 Comments

Finally!  As much fun as it is to do the whole camping-in-an-empty-apartment thing, we were all getting a little sick of the air mattress.

So far everything seems to be intact, so as we spend the rest of the day sorting through everything and (hopefully) getting set up, I’m posting a few snapshots from the last week!

{just the bare beauty essentials for a week or two}

{quick, crucial stop at Dylan’s Candy Bar in the Galleria for me}

{trying on a vintage bottega veneta dress at a consignment store — loved the back!}

{grocery stores here are freaking insane}

{healthy-ish veggie pizza without cheese for brunch this weekend}

{also insane (but fun): the amount of texas memorabilia in all shapes and sizes, even for pooches!}

{coco taking her last nap on the air mattress before our real bed gets set up again!}

pink lemonade-thyme cocktail

September 17th, 2011 · 3 Comments

One of my secrets to getting through NYFW in one piece is that I hardly drink at all — a few sips here and there, but that’s about it.  Most of the time, I barely (or just don’t) have time to eat while I’m running from show to show, and adding alcohol onto that is basically a recipe for trouble.

I always say that I’d rather skip an afterparty and make it to my 9 a.m. show the next morning — and since getting to a 9 a.m. show at Lincoln Center basically means getting up around 7 a.m., I generally try to get to bed as early as possible every night.

But now that I’m done with Fashion Week, and a few short days (if that) away from a cross-country move, there might be room for a cocktail.

I’ve said before, I’m not into overly sweet cocktails — in fact, I rarely order them in restaurants because they’re almost always too sweet for me.  But — like most recipes — when I’m making my own and I know what goes into it, I actually like them.  You could do a thyme-infused syrup for this by boiling sugar, water, and the thyme sprig for a few minutes, or you could just make the recipe the way I do and rely on the thyme as a fragrant garnish.

Pink Lemonade-Thyme Cocktail

INGREDIENTS
3 ounces pink lemonade
3 ounces sparkling wine
1 tbsp Aperol (a sweet, bitter orange liqueur)
1 tsp lemon juice
1 thyme sprig

DIRECTIONS

Mix all ingredients together in a champagne glass, garnish with the thyme sprig.  Serve!

new york fashion week: day six (or lack thereof)

September 15th, 2011 · 9 Comments

Day six of fashion week was a sad, sad day.

You know how kids sometimes get so excited about their birthdays or Christmas that they wind up making themselves sick?  I feel like that’s what happened to me.

I woke up on the morning of day six of fashion week with food poisoning.

I basically couldn’t get out of bed all day.  I probably slept 16 of 24 hours, and it took me ninety minutes to successfully drink a glass of water.  I was too sick to make it to any shows, which was so disappointing — I was tempted to tough it out for some of the amazing shows I’d been invited to, but basically every time I stood up, I vomited, so it wasn’t really an option.

The good news was, it passed quickly and I’m back in action (although only barely back on solid foods, sigh).  So I’ll have a much better recap for you guys tomorrow — I’m so bummed this happened, but I’m trying not to dwell on it.  There’s always next season for the shows I missed, and I’ve been so lucky for the amazing clothes I’ve seen already this week!  Even with this little bump in the road, it’s been my very best NYFW so far.

PS — If you ever wanted to see me sick as a dog and without a drop of makeup?  These photos.

theyskens obsession

September 6th, 2011 · 10 Comments

it just goes to show you: You put me in the coolest clothes, the coolest accessories, and take me to the coolest events, but you’re never going to get rid of the big huge dork that’s hiding just beneath the surface.

But, really, these are seriously the coolest clothes.  The Theyskens Theory collection is my new absolute obsession, and it seriously runs from the-most-amazing-work-dress-you’ll-ever-buy to the-most-amazing-party-dress-you’ll-ever-buy.  I went a little nuts and ended up with this blouse and shorts, and I’m beyond obsessed.  They look as chic and can be and feel like pajamas — best combo ever.

And how perfectly do they go with this Rebecca Minkoff bag?  I love how it’s got a bit of a downtown vibe — I could see this pairing just as well with jeans or a cute dress, and the size is big enough for my iPad without veering out of oversized-clutch territory.  LOVE.

I’ve worn the heck out of these heels, and I’m debating picking these up before Wednesday — they also come in this amazing army green and black ombre style that is so insanely cool.  On the other hand, the nonstop rain yesterday makes me want to pull on Ugg Boots and be done with it.  (just kidding.  well…?)
