When I was in college, I had a really bad habit. No, not keg beer or sleeping through classes — my senior year, I had the terrible, terrible habit of visiting tanning booths. At the time, I thought it looks sooooo great to be really tan (and have blonde hair, but that’s a whole separate set of mistakes, and I’m not ready to go there on the internet yet).

In the years since, I’ve realized what a giant mistake it was to *ever* set foot in one of those tanning salons. The idea that I once paid money to have concentrated sun damage to my skin is absolutely horrifying to me now — and I’ve spent a good period of time since then making sure that I do everything I can to protect my skin. I still use sunless tanner here and there, but I literally never step outside my apartment with less than SPF 15.

So I loved the idea of doing a giveaway with Coppertone — because with Memorial Day just around the corner, it’s not a bad reminder to slather on the sunscreen! So *five* lucky winners will receive two bottles of Coppertone Sport — sweatproof, waterproof, SPF 50 to keep you safe and sunburn-free for the summer months! To enter, you can do one of two things. Either post a comment below, or follow me on Twitter here!  And yes, that means you can enter twice!

Honestly, if you’re not following me on Twitter already, you’re missing basically half this blog, so go do it! Entries will close on Thursday, May 20th, and I’ll choose five winners randomly!  I’m proud to say I’ve changed my errant ways — Coppertone sent me some sunscreen as well, and I’ve been using it religiously!  I’ve turned into such a good example.

Count me in! Coppertone Sport SPF 50 is exactly what I used on my trip to Punta Cana.  But even then, I still got some serious color( the sun is brutal there!).

Also, following you on Twitter.  My twitter name is @maddytweetz :)

I was never a tanning bed girl, but I got more than enough sun as a kid/teen/college student and I’m trying to make up for it now by coating myself in sunblock.

Just started following you on twitter too!

your equally pale sister in Saint Louis

p.s. Count me in!  Although I still don’t quite get what twitter is!

I thankfully never used tanning beds or anything but a lot of my childhood was spent in the sun with no protection from the rays. Of course since hitting my 20s I now always have sunscreen on!

I’m not using an umbrella/parasol (like in the 1800s) but I agree that the best thing is sunblock.  Glad your updating everyone about that.

  • 6 Katherine // May 14, 2010 at 7:53 am

I could totally use the sunscreen. I wear sunscreen all the time!

  • 7 Lynda@meandmypinkmixer // May 14, 2010 at 7:57 am

I fair, so I wear suncreen all the time too & I need some for this summer ~ thanks for the giveaway :) BYW – you look very pretty in your picture!

Living in FL we go through sunscreen like most people go through water.  I never go out without at least a 15 on and when we are at an outside event I make sure I wear 30 or higher.  The kids always have a 50+ on!  Great giveaway!

  • 10 Amy // May 14, 2010 at 8:04 am

But I don’t twitter. Really. It’s like when I tell people that I don’t watch television. Really, I don’t. I have too much other fun stuff to do in life… like take my 4 year old daughter outside for water balloon popping contests – for which the coppertone spf 50 waterproof would be fantastic! :)

I always use sunscreen and a big floppy hat in the summer.  I think one thing that people don’t realize is you can get sun damage when it is cloudy almost worse than if it is super sunny out.  It is so important to always have sunscreen on!

Also, sunless tanners or spray tanning is a godsend when you want a bit of color without the possibility of cancer.

I’ve just started going to the beach again, so I’d love some good strong sunscreen!

On behalf of all the colleagues at Schering-Plough (now Merck) Consumer Healthcare, thanks for helping us get the word out to always use suncreen…and especially Coppertone!

I used to use tanning booths way back when, and like you, I’ve changed to wearing sunscreen. I’ve love the Coppertone!

    Yay Coppertone! And Yay summer!

  • 17 Patricia // May 14, 2010 at 2:20 pm

I’ve never used a tanning bed. But, am older now, and really need sunscreen. I doubt if I would tan without burning like when I was a teenager. Thanks for the giveaway.

I am a freckled face, red head who lives in Phx. AZ. Sooo, it wouldn’t kill me to have sunscreen on hand :-)

  • 21 jen // May 15, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I wear SPF 15 on my face and at least 30-45 at the beach!  Who wants cancer or wrinkles :(

  • 22 Jill // May 15, 2010 at 4:14 pm

I totally agree with you – after moving to TX, with my fair complexion, I can’t live without my sunscreen!

  • 23 Kristen // May 16, 2010 at 9:06 am

I’m definitely a bit ocd about sunscreen when I’m in a bikini.  I have to be a bit better about it when I’m otherwise outside during the summer. I tend to forget to even put it on.

  • 24 Missie // May 16, 2010 at 9:15 am

    Yeah for no tanning beds!

  • 25 Missie // May 16, 2010 at 9:15 am
