There are so many cute ideas bouncing around the internet for how to reveal your baby's gender, but you know which one I immediately gravitated towards?
One that involved CAKE, obviously.
I'm super excited to tell you guys the sex of the baby, but if I'm being totally honest, this may have been, like, ten percent an excuse to bake a fresh, yummy cake. :-)
And what a cake it was. I made the icing on the outside white, pink and blue so that you couldn't tell the gender...
....but when you slice inside...
...you find out...
...that...
...we're having...
...a...
BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so, so incredibly excited! Obviously, I would have been happy either way (and would love to have both a boy and a girl someday) but I had been hoping since before we got pregnant that we'd have a baby boy, and now it's true! We are both thrilled and can't wait to meet the little guy who's been kicking me in the stomach for the last few weeks.
{Finally, a note on the cake itself: I took the easy shortcut of using boxed mix for the cake (with food coloring to make it blue, of course!) but made the frosting from scratch and it was AMAZING! It's a super easy buttercream that doesn't bother with egg whites or any annoying ingredients: just 2 sticks of unsalted batter (1 cup), 3 cups of confectioner's sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of skim milk! SO easy and completely amazing!}
