I followed this recipe, but added Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur) instead of vodka. It was amazing! It had the same texture as gelato. I will omit the sugar next time, it will be perfect with the sweetness that nutella adds to the ice cream. Thank you for the recipe!

To those of you concerned about the vodka: I can understand if you're straight edge by principle, but really? Especially the person serving teenagers? From a pharmacological standpoint, 1 tablespoon in two cups of ice cream is pretty much negligible unless you're serving grade schoolers. We're talking less than 1/2T per serving at most. Chances are that you consume more than that in a serving anyway if you ever eat Chinese, Japanese, French, or any other cuisine that often makes use of cooking wine such as mirin or sake.

Two firsts for me on this recipe. One, this was my first time making homemade ice cream. Two — wait for it — this was my first time ever tasting Nutella. Crazy, I know. When I went to the store to by eggs and cream for basic custard recipes, something told me to walk over to the PB aisle and finally try this much-raved about hazelnut chocolate goodness. Then, I got home and googled "Nutella ice cream," and that's how I found your blog. This ice cream (sans vodka, plus vanilla bean paste) was fab and, since it was such a winner, I now want to try nearly every recipe you have posted! Thank you!

This-is-amazing. I am a huge Nutella fan so I knew I wanted to give this recipe a try. I omitted the vodka because of some alcohol allergies in my family. It was very easy; and the end result had a few frozen nutella chunks in it. (Which by the way are delicious) I will definitely be making this again!

Re: vodka, yes, sometimes it actually *does* raise a question. I'm gathering up ice cream recipes that I can give to five teenaged (*underaged*) girls to make on a camping trip (with one of those ice cream maker balls) this weekend. If I were making this for myself in my own kitchen? Hell yeah, I'd use Kahlua for sure. For a gaggle of 13-14 year-olds? Maybe not so much. I'm going to take a chance on leaving it out...
