style: city slicker

My first year of college, I had three southern roommates.  Let me say — it was a culture shock.  Unfortunately, having grown up in Connecticut, I was completely ignorant of a number of southern staples.  Garth Brooks, sweet tea, and cowboy boots, to name a few.  At some point freshman year, my sorority had a Dukes of Hazard party, and I had to ask what to wear — that was actually rather embarrassing.

There was quite a bit I had to get used to, and some of it, after a while, I actually grew to enjoy.  Yes, really.  I learned to appreciate the Dixie Chicks blasting on Saturday afternoons, at least a little bit.

And one of the things I really grew to like are cowboy boots.  After much searching, I found these Ariat boots and fell madly in love.  Paired with a legitimate southern cowboy hat (below), I feel like I should be making a dress out of curtains or sipping mint juleps on the porch.

Or not.  Because while I will never be a southern girl, it is starting to feel like summer in NYC, and I am celebrating in a big way.  It feels like there is so much going on this spring, and I’m trying to enjoy every moment.  More to come!

Free People shirt, vintage cowboy hat, Ariat boots, Abercrombie skirt, Forever 21 ring, Charlie My Love bag.
