style: ralph lauren 4D

Last night, I was invited to an event at Ralph Lauren, which the invite told me involved a “4D” light show set against the front of their new Madison Avenue flagship store. A little confused, but willing to go along with whatever Ralph had planned for the night, I happily told them that I would come.
And, whoa. Their lightshow was actually pretty incredible. Watching the video above will give you a pretty good sense of it, but I’ve also included some of my photos below (and more on the Sugarlaws Facebook page ). Polo ponies hurtling through the air, models descending the stairs under chandeliers, bags and neckties floating through the air. All of them looking completely vivid and real against the backdrop of a giant Manhattan building. Pretty amazing.
While I was at the event, I gave the interview above to Chic.TV and this morning, a few of my readers emailed to let me know that the video was up on the New York Magazine website ! I’m a huge fan of all things NYMag, so I was so, so excited about this, and I figured I had to share the video with you guys!
I’m a little embarrassed by the part of the video where I say I’m not sure what “4D” is, but I did a little research today. Going into this event, I thought that the fourth dimension was time, which apparently doesn’t hold true in modern physics (thank you, Wikipedia — what would I do without you?). Instead, the fourth dimension is “an abstract concept derived by generalizing the rules of three-dimensional space.” So, while I sound like a little bit of a ditz in saying that I don’t know what 4D means on the video, neither do modern physicists. Just sayin.
