There is nothing more fun that swimming, running, walking, and doing pretty much anything at the beach.
If you’re planning a beach trip in these last few days of summer, think beyond sitting on the beach towel. Use a beach trip as an opportunity to get some exercise and have some fun in the sun!
Long walks on the shore are a ton of fun (the extra resistance tones your muscles!), but other great options are swimming, volleyball, or taking a bike ride down the boardwalk.
Here are some tried and true ways to incorporate fitness into your beach plans:
Plan Ahead: Before a vacation, download a few high-energy songs — they’re perfect for motivating exercise, even on those days when you’re feeling lazy. New music perks up my energy, so make sure to have a few great songs ready.
Beach Side Workouts: If you’re not sure where to start, bring a volleyball with you to toss around with your sweetie or your friends. Also, pack a Frisbee and research if the beach you’re going to will have bike rentals. Get a rental, with a helmet of course, and bike for 30 minutes or an hour. It’s a great cardio workout! Also, there’s always the most obvious choice – swimming. Have a friendly swim race or just splash around in the water.
Remember the Recovery: After your workout, remember to pack some healthy snacks and plenty of water! Since you know that you’ll be exercising keep a water bottle handy all day long, and bring along easy snacks like sliced fruit for an extra hydration boost. If you can’t pack your own snacks, look for fruit salad or raw vegetables and hummus at the concession stands.
Don’t forget your skin: Even if your moisturizer already has SPF, apply additional sunscreen when you’re at the beach for added protection. Always reapply it after swimming or exercising. Bring makeup wipes (Simple Skincare Radiance Cleansing Wipes) to freshen up at the end of the day and reapply your moisturizer with sunscreen. That way, you can go straight from the sand to dinner!
