Easy Spring Makeup Tutorial

I know spring hasn’t quite hit most of the country yet, but here in Texas, it’s in full force!  And from the moment it warms up, I start thinking about how my beauty routine changes.

For instance: I don’t have to slather on as much Simple Skincare Replenishing Rich Moisturizer every night and morning! I change my moisturizer to the Simple Skincare Protecting Light Moisturizer, which has SPF 15 for those sunnier days!  (My foundation also has SPF, so don’t worry, I’m still getting sun protection during the winter!)

And my beauty routine changes too!  I start reaching for my bronzer a little more frequently, and easing up on the dramatic eye makeup.  Spring is the perfect time to try out a fresh-faced, minimal makeup look, so that’s what I always gravitate towards!

For this look, I created a subtle smoky eye using brown liner, and brown and gold eye shadow.  I use the darker brown shadow in the crease and right along my lash line, and then fill in the rest of my eye with shimmery gold.  I used a combination of blush and bronzer to highlight my cheekbones, and went with a soft, natural pink lipstick.  The end result is makeup that hardly looks like you’re wearing makeup — perfect to accentuate your natural beauty!

Holiday Beauty

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I *love* this time of the year.

I love picking out presents for our friends and families, feeling the excitement of the new year about to start, and — obviously — getting glammed up for night after night of fabulous holiday parties!

But as we started dressing up more frequently a few weeks ago, I started to realize: my make-up routine was in a rut.  More than a rut — my makeup routine has pretty much been the same, every single day, for like TWO YEARS (basically a streamlined version of the products I wrote about in this post).  Sure, sometimes I experiment with a lipstick or a new blush, but pretty much, I’ve been doing the exact same thing every morning for the last, oh, 700 days or so.

So obviously it was time to brainstorm some new beauty looks!  I like to keep my makeup pretty minimal, so I wanted something that wouldn’t look too dramatic — just pretty, glowing, and easy to recreate time after time.

First, I started with smooth and moisturized skin — which isn’t easy at this time of the year!  I apply Simple Skincare Replenishing Rich Moisturizer at night, and Simple Skincare Protecting Light Moisturizer in the morning before I put on my makeup.  During the summer, I can sometimes get away with moisturizing once a day, but during the winter, twice is an absolute must.  (And sun protection is crucial, even during the winter, so make sure to use at least SPF 15!) Then I used concealer under my eyes and a light layer of C

NYFW Beauty: The Good, The Bad, The Wackadoodle Crazy

The one thing you can always count on at New York Fashion Week: Spectacle.  No matter what you’re expecting, there’s always some designer to take a big risk with crazy accessories or totally unique hair and makeup.  Sometimes it’s an awesome addition to a show, sometimes it’s distracting and maybe not the best choice.  But it’s always interesting.

So I thought I’d do a little recap of some of the trends I saw, from the ones that I’m excited to try out, to the ones that aren’t for me, to the ones that some of you braver readers might be interested in. 🙂

Good: Luminous Makeup

Candela is always one of my favorite shows (it’s hard to believe they were a new discovery to me just a few seasons ago) and this year, they knocked it out of the park with their models’ gorgeous hair and makeup.  EVerything was flawless, from the rosy cheeky to the dewy skin: to me, this makeup is perfect.

Good: Minimal Makeup

The clothes were so fierce at Matthieu Mirano that I almost didn’t notice at first that the models were hardly wearing any makeup!  I love the juxtaposition of tough-girl clothes (black leather bralets, wow) with a completely natural face, so this one was a home run for me.  Things to remember when you’re recreating this natural look: you can still use foundation to add contour and definition to your features, just keep it light and natural.  And always start out with a clean and
