Let's face it: a baby's first Halloween is one of those moments that new parents spend a lot of time looking forward to. Adorable kid, cute costume: it's the stuff that memories (and great Instagram snapshots!) are made of.
And this year, I *may* have taken Halloween a step further than most moms might. In fact... I was so bonkers excited for Halloween that I bought Bear's costume when I was four months pregnant.
Last year at Halloween, I was wandering through a store, thinking about how much fun it would be at this time next year, when our baby boy would be six months old and gearing up for his first Halloween. I thought about all the baby costumes we could choose from, the pictures we'd look back on for years to come. And even though it was a year too early, I bought our future son a Halloween costume. Months before he was even born.
But I didn't stop there. Because as this Halloween approached, even though I already had a costume that I loved... they were just too cute to resist. In the last few weeks, as Halloween got closer and closer, I was so excited to dress him up, that, yes, maybe I went a little overboard.
Because... I bought him two more costumes.
In fact, at this point, I'm not even sure I can call them Halloween costumes. When I posted this Instagram photo of our son in a Superman costume a few weeks ago, people asked me: is that for Halloween?
And the answer is: Sort of. It's for Halloween, of course. Bear won't be running around dressed up as a dino in November.
But it's also not just for Halloween. I also went a little bit overboard because cute baby costumes are a rite of passage, a moment for new moms to plan and relish and share photos of. There are a lot of hard things about being a parent, but picking a Halloween costume? That one is just plain fun.
And you know what? Bear has worn a bunch of different costumes this month, and it has been adorable. I won't apologize for going a little overboard this holiday -- it's fun and really darn cute to see your cute little baby dressed up as Superman, a dinosaur, a pumpkin, or any other costume you have your eye on.
And to share in that first-holiday excitement, I'm so very excited to announce that I'm partnering with Fisher Price for the next few months to talk about some of the awesome moments that I've experienced as a new mom. And we're starting with Halloween! To celebrate all those costumed kids out there, Fisher Price is asking you guys to post photos of your kids in their Halloween costumes to Instagram using the hashtag #FPHalloween! Some of the best costumes will be featured on the Fisher Price Instagram to celebrate the holiday! Feel free to dig up your favorite #tbt shot or snap a pic of this year's costume -- it's a fun chance to show of your little cutie pies!
