Sugarlaws: Living Sweetly.

For some reason, lately I’ve been a little obsessed with digging around in Chad’s closet every time I’m putting an outfit together.  Maybe I’m sick of my own clothes, or maybe this brutal winter has been calling for comfortable, oversized pieces, but either way, my obsession with menswear is getting a little extreme.

I got this Vince scarf on sale at Saks for $40 after Christmas (marked down from $150), and when I first bought it, I wasn’t sure if I’d end up getting any use out of it.  But sometimes it’s pieces like those that you end up using the most — at first, you throw them on to prove they weren’t a waste of money, but as you keep wearing and wearing them, you realize they go with everything.  I try to think about cost-per-wear when I’m shopping, and this one is literally in the pennies — I’ve worn it to death already.

Annoyingly, some of my Forever 21 pieces that were only $20 or $30 have an exponentially high cost-per-wear, because I’ve worn them exactly… zero times.  Sigh.

The denim-shorts-with-tights look can look a little trashy with the wrong accessories, so I think it’s important to counter them with pieces that aren’t overtly sexy — an oversized sweater, chunky wedge boots, nude lipcolor.  Actually, I think pretty much anything goes with these boots — if I weren’t afraid of ruining them in the snow, I’d wear them every day for the rest of winter.

Vince scarf, Elizabeth and James boots, Chad’s J. Crew sweater, Abercrombie shorts, Betsey Johnson tights, Aqua necklace.

I’d be afraid I’d be too cold wearing shorts with tights, but I suppose it’s not that different from wearing a skirt with tights… I’d probably have to wear thicker tights, though, here in Wisconsin!

The boots are adorable! I agree tights/shorts can look too casual, but with an oversized top, the balance works. Cute!

Adore this!  A little different from your usual style, but really cute!

Definitely agree about the tights with jorts look, but you pulled it off. (PS snow is destroying footwear – but I just found these boots on sale yesterday at Nine West and had to buy them, cute alternative to Hunters – http://www.ninewest.com/Pitbull/6056794,default,pd.html?cgid=2938081&itemNum=18&variantSizeClass=&variantColor=OLIOLSU – they’re almost to the knee and have a cute zipper down the back..)

Fantastic advice on how to pull off the tights with shorts look. I’ve tried the combo in the privacy of my own home a few times but never made it as far as the street because I could never seem to form the right outfit. I think pairing the tights with more neutral and masculine pieces makes a practical but still fashionable outfit.

I have almost as many men’s J. Crew men’s shirts and sweaters as women’s :) I don’t have a boyfriend/husband to blame on for buying them, they’re just for me!

And who makes the gorgeous rings on your fingers (besides your wedding rings)? I love the one on your index finger on the close up shot.

Forever 21!  It was $5 this winter — it’s not on their website anymore, but these two are pretty close:

And ha!  I have a few that I bought just for me too — plus a at least one that I stole from Chad’s closet and just never returned… :-)
