I.  Die.  Over this dress.

I stopped into Zara this weekend for the first time in a while, and I almost couldn’t believe it when I spotted this dress — incredibly close to a Chloe design from several seasons ago, and $79!  I bought it without even trying it on — the line for dressing rooms was around the whole store, so I just crossed my fingers and took it home.

And to my incredible relief, it fit like a glove.  I would believe this dress cost ten times as much as it actually did, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing it to one of our upcoming weddings this summer.

When people compliment me on something I got a great deal on, I always feel the need to tell them exactly how much I paid for it.  Do you guys do this too?  If someone compliments one of my Forever 21 rings or necklaces, I always tell them that it cost $5 or $10.  But when I’m wearing something expensive, sometimes I get kind of embarrassed to admit it.  I feel like it’s more fun to brag about something that looks expensive but isn’t, and be understated about the things you actually paid a lot for.

Zara dress, Forever 21 pumps, J. Crew clutch.

Bragging about deals is one of the reasons I started my blog, haha! I do it all the time new, often in the form of loud announcements that I realize are embarrassing later.

LOVE the dress – but isn’t it still considered rude to wear a white-ish dress to a wedding if you aren’t the bride?  Or is that just a mid-west hang-up?

AH.  Good point.  I wasn’t even thinking about that.  The top of this dress is cream, but you’re right — Pippa Middleton aside, I think that’s definitely still a faux pas!

And everyone — clearly the consensus is that Zara needs online shopping already!!!  Ridiculous!

    WOW! I love that dress!
and I agree, I love saying what things cost if it was cheap or I got an awesome deal on it, but if I splurged [even if it is cheap relative to the regular price] I feel awkward, ha ha

Don’t wear it to a wedding – you will upstage the bride!! You look AMAZING. And I totally do the same thing…but only in company with those who would appreciate it

Beautiful dress! But it poses a question that I encounter every summer. Never fails that I fall in love with a beautiful cream/white/nude colored dress that would be perfect for a wedding… EXCEPT it’s cream/white/nude. And I always feel like it’s a major faux pas to wear anything that might be close to the shade of the bride’s dress.

You said you might be wearing this dress to weddings… am I just too old fashioned and need to get over wearing cream/white/nudes at wedding? Is there a new standard?

    Thanks!

You guys make such good points.  I’m not sure what the answer is on this one.  I might actually check with the bride before wearing this to a wedding — and also take into account the bride’s personality type.  Is she the type who’s going to be upset if you show up wearing white on her day?  Or is she the type who doesn’t really care, and just wants you to be there, regardless of what you’re wearing?  I can tell you offhand which of my friends fall into which categories. :-)

I wasn’t even thinking that this dress qualifies as “white,” since it’s more of a nude, but I think it’s a really valid point.  Amy — I do the SAME THING EVERY SUMMER.  I have all these amazing white dresses that I can never wear to anything!

BUT.  Nothing says you can’t wear white to the rehearsal dinner/brunch after the wedding or bridal shower, right?!
