too much or just enough?

I bought this dress last spring and wore it nonstop for about a month… until I saw a photo of myself and realized that it looked like I was wearing a tent.

A pretty tent.  But a tent.

It even requires some assembly — the dress is actually two layers, and there are little strings at the bottom where you tie them together to create volume.  Which is actually very cool, except that I’m not sure ‘more volume’ is always a good thing when you’re relatively petite to begin with (and don’t want to be mistaken for an Olsen twin).

What do you guys think?  Does the volume work?  I’ve tried belting it with no success at all, and I’m pretty sure the only fix is to pick shoes that add some height and structure, like these supercute wedges from Wanted.  Don’t they remind you a little of the espadrilles Kate Middleton wore the day after the wedding?  Who knew black patent went so well with rope wedges?

Sisley dress, gifted Wanted espadrilles, gifted Foster Grant sunglasses, gifted Iman Global Chic bracelet.

Boxy dresses work best on those who are petite anyway. I honestly think they just don’t photograph as well – but they always look great in person! You look lovely, as always! Embrace the boxy-ness! :)

Thanks guys.  Sarah, I totally agree.  Sometimes I trust the camera more than I trust myself in the mirror — but dresses like these can be so hard to photograph well!

I think it’s just enough! Although I do love me some volume (I’m not petite). Shoes look cute!

I actually really like it!! The ombre of the blue to white is great too :) I don’t think it looks like a tent

i think it works with the wedges, maybe not one to try with flat ballet pumps! it’s good to push the boat out though, & look a little different :) i think it looks great on you.

btw, i hear Kate Middleton’s wedges were by LK Bennett if anyone’s interested :)

I love it! But it does sound like a difficult item to put together!

I actually think it’s too much because it seems to overwhelm your frame, but do know that I love the way you dress! :) Perhaps it does look better in person, like the rest of your comments mentioned!

I love the outfit! It definitely does not look like you’re wearing a tent! I love the colors of the dress, and the wedges are really cute! It’s a perfect spring/summer outfit! :)

sorry – but it’s too much.

there’s so much fabric around it drags you down and makes you look bottom heavy. pear is only a good shape for fruit.

the only way i think it would work is if you stopped pulling on the strings/ creating gathers and belting it at your waist (or where the blue changes to white) with a super dark blue belt.

    lovely colour though :)
