Baby Bump: Week 23!

First, a quick word.

This used to be my favorite hat. I wore it to Fashion Week last year (twice). It was about $5 from Claire's, and I loved it so much.

A few days ago, Chad and I were out for ice cream and he gave me this sideways glance.

"What?" I asked, genuinely confused.

"Did, um... did one of the dogs eat your hat?"

I reached up with my fingers and realized... the panda now has only half an ear!

Poor little guy. RIP, panda hat. I even scoured the internet for a replacement, but no luck.

(On the other hand, that's what I get for essentially wearing a giant dog toy on my head.)

In other news, this baby is growing like crazy! I was talking to a friend at a party on Saturday, and she was like, "I've been following your bump pictures... but it hasn't changed very much so far, has it?" To be honest, I agree with her -- some days it feels like I'm suddenly huge, and other days, it seems like it's barely changed at all! But the little guy in there is almost 2 pounds at this point, so he's definitely growing!

Also, I think that I may have put on a little extra weight early in pregnancy because I was so thin when I got pregnant. I wasn't underweight before getting pregnant, but I was just on the cusp of being considered "underweight" -- but my periods were normal so my doctors never told me I needed to gain weight before trying to conceive. But then I gained almost 7 pounds in the first trimester, which is a lot more than most people do -- I think it was because my body suddenly started hanging on to every calorie, making sure I had enough to feed this little guy and myself.

I usually struggle to gain weight, so it was a big surprise to me when I started gaining so fast early on -- and I was a little panicked that I was heading for a 50+ pound weight gain! But it was really just my body doing what it needed to do to keep me and the baby healthy -- I'm almost done with the second trimester, and I gained about 1 pound a week (maybe a little less, even) throughout, which is right on track.

Otherwise, this was a pretty quiet week. I've been nesting like crazy -- I've cleaned out my beauty cabinets, our pantry, and next on my list is the closet in the baby's room, which is basically an entire closet full of junk I should get rid of. Our house is going to be spotless by the time he gets here!

How far along? 23 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss: 15 pounds.

Maternity clothes? Yes! Maternity jeans for sure, and I'm still a little in between on tops and dresses!

Stretch marks? Nope! After last week's scare, I've been extra careful about using belly oil though.

Symptoms: Eating continues to be a source of frustration. I get uncomfortable really fast if I eat a big meal, so I've been trying to snack (healthily) throughout the day.

Sleep: Not great. Last night, I was up for an hour trying to fall asleep on my side, when I knew I'd be so comfortable on my back! (You're not supposed to sleep on your back because it can cut off blood flow to the baby.) Oh well. I continue to struggle through.

Best moment this week: This week, I've just generally felt so happy and content. It's such a cliche, but I really do feel SO incredibly grateful that we're able to have a baby and that he seems healthy and happy so far.

Worst moment of the week: I stupidly tried to lift a heavy box and totally screwed up my back one night. Fortunately, I'm feeling a lot better after resting it, but I have to remember to take it easy!

Have you told family and friends: Yes!

Miss Anything? Nothing this week!

Movement: Lots!

Food cravings: Peppermint bark, flavor-blasted goldfish.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope, I'm feeling a lot better this week.

Have you started to show yet: YES!

Labor Signs: Nope

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: Picking out wall stuff for the baby's room. Our glider arrives in a few weeks, so when I get the walls done, it will be ready for him to arrive!
