Ingredients
- 8 bread slices
- 1/4 cup Nutella hazelnut spread
- 2 bananas, sliced, plus additional for serving
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 4 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- Butter, for frying
- Maple syrup, for serving
Directions
- With a sharp knife, make a pocket in each bread slice, taking care not to slice all the way through and turn it into 2 pieces. Spoon some of the Nutella into each opening, then tuck in the banana slices.
- Warm a large skillet over medium heat, then add enough butter to generously cover the base of the pan. The skillet should be hot, but the butter should not be smoking.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the heavy cream, eggs, cinnamon and sugar until combined. Dip each stuffed bread pocket into the custard, turning it so every side is well soaked, then do the same with the remaining stuffed slices.
- Working in batches, cook the soaked bread in the skillet until the custard is cooked through, about 3 minutes on each side.
- Finish the French toast with extra banana slices and serve it warm with maple syrup drizzled over the top.
