A year ago (yes, seriously, and I can’t believe it’s been that long either), when I was about four months pregnant and we knew that our beloved dog Calvin was facing serious health issues, my husband somehow convinced me to do something completely nuts.
Months before bringing a newborn human child into this world…
… we got a puppy.
Now, would I recommend that *you* go out and get a puppy midway through your first pregnancy?
Well, no. Probably not. We joke that Chad snuck in a puppy at the buzzer, because the moment that our son entered this world, I suddenly realized that I would never again have time for anything else, in the world ever. (I’m exaggerating, but only a little bit. It honestly feels like that as a new mom some days.)
But, because my husband is perpetually optimistic about our ability to 1) multitask and 2) care for living creatures, Rambo joined our family.
And, you know what?
Rambo is an awesome member of our family.
This little puppy has brought us so much joy. He’s sweet and good-natured and easygoing, and he and Bear are best friends. Chad and I were looking over my Instagram photos a few weekends ago, and we realized something hilarious: Rambo is in every single photo of the baby. Sometimes it’s a paw, sometimes it’s a tail, and sometimes it’s the whole dog, but anywhere our son is… there’s Rambo, too.
So I thought it was particularly fitting to post a few photos of Bear and Rambo from the last few months. And it’s an extra special post because my terrific reader Krystal sent us this beautiful, handmade playmat from her line, Bee and Her Dog. Like Bear, Krystal’s daughter Bee had a puppy bud, and she named her beautiful line after them. Check out more of her designs here — I know you guys will love them as much as Bear and I do.
Photo overload ahead! (I couldn’t resist.)
