Ingredients
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup milk or half and half
- 5 eggs
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/8 tsp baking powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 10 slices day old french bread
Directions
Warm a nonstick griddle over medium heat. Add everything except the bread to a blender, then mix on low for 10 seconds. Transfer the custard to a shallow dish. Butter the hot griddle, dip the bread into the custard for a few seconds so it can soak, and coat each slice on both sides. Set the bread on the griddle and cook until the first side is golden, about 2-3 minutes. Slide a spatula underneath, butter the griddle again, and turn the French toast over. Let the second side brown, then bring it to the table right away with maple syrup, berry syrup, powdered sugar, or your favorite jam.
