Cheesy Baked Hot Dogs

Ingredients

  • 6 all-beef hot dogs
  • 6 hot dogs buns, top cut
  • 3/4 to 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 white onion, diced
  • Sweet pickle relish
  • Ketchup
  • 1/2 cup diced dill pickles
  • 1/2 cup diced spicy pickled cauliflower
  • 1/4 cup diced banana peppers

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Set a medium skillet over medium heat, add the hot dogs, and sear them until the outsides just begin to blister all around, 4 to 5 minutes. Stop there, before they get overdone.
  2. Nestle the browned hot dogs into the buns, using top cut hot dog buns if you have them, and arrange them in a large baking dish. Scatter the grated cheese and diced white onion over the top.
  3. Bake for about 6 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the buns are lightly toasted. The onions should lose a little of their sharpness but still have some crunch, which is exactly the idea.
  4. Take the hot dogs out of the oven and finish them with ketchup, relish, or the Dad Add giardiniera. Serve the hot dogs with a veggie side such as steamed broccoli.
  5. Leftovers are not great here, so only make the amount you plan to eat.
