Our Favorite Blackout Curtain
Early summer sunrises and skipped naps used to run our whole day. The blackout curtains we chose are the NICETOWN panels: they take a room pitch-black for naps and early bedtimes, they're heavy enough to help with drafts, and they slide right onto a standard rod. Here's the one we chose, plus a few others we seriously considered.

NICETOWN Blackout Curtains
These are the blackout curtains we actually hung. They take a room genuinely pitch-black for naps and early bedtimes, they're well-made and heavy enough to block drafts, and they slide right onto a standard rod.

True blackout vs. room darkening. “Room darkening” panels still let a glow through. For nurseries and early bedtimes, look for panels sold as full blackout. Size and coverage. Measure the window and go wider and longer than the frame so light can’t sneak in around the edges. Thermal lining. Heavier lined panels help keep a bedroom cooler in summer and warmer in winter. How they hang. Grommets slide easily for daily opening; rod pockets look tidier but are slower to move.
If your kids share rooms or nap on the go, a portable shade that sticks to the glass is handy for travel and temporary rooms.
The NICETOWN blackout curtains at the top are the ones we chose. Below them are the others we considered: the H.VERSAILTEX linen panels for a more grown-up look, the Joydeco thermal-lined panels for a warm nursery, and the Amazon Basics portable shade for hotel rooms and trips.
