Our Favorite Blender
For busy mornings, the blender we chose is the Ninja Professional Plus — the Auto-iQ programs crush smoothies for the whole crew. Here's what we bought, plus a few others we seriously considered.

Vitamix 5200 Blender, Professional-Grade Blender for Smoothies, Soups, Ice Cream and More, Stainless-Steel Blades, Self-Cleaning Kitchen Appliance, 64 Oz Container, Black
This is the blender we actually run every morning. It powers through frozen fruit and ice like they aren’t there, the 64-ounce container makes smoothies for everyone in one batch, and it cleans itself with a drop of soap and a quick blend.

Smoothies started as a bribe. If we blended fruit and a little yogurt and called it a milkshake, the middle kids would drink down the spinach hidden inside and never notice. The problem was our old blender, which sounded like it was in physical pain every time it hit a frozen strawberry and left a layer of gravelly ice chips at the bottom no matter what.
The Vitamix 5200 ended the struggle. It powers straight through frozen fruit and ice without that dying-motor whine, and the 64-ounce container is the quiet hero — one batch fills a cup for everyone at once, instead of blending in shifts while the first round separates on the counter. Cleanup is a drop of dish soap and a ten-second blend, which matters when the counter is already covered in breakfast.
We’d eyed cheaper blenders and one of the bullet systems before this, and we’d already lived the cycle of a bargain blender choking on ice and dying inside a year. The Vitamix is a genuine splurge — there’s no pretending otherwise — but it’s the buy-it-once answer: a motor that treats a full container of frozen fruit like nothing, a build with a reputation for lasting a decade, and smoothies, soups, and the occasional batch of ice cream all from one machine. Spread across six kids’ worth of daily smoothies, it’s the rare gadget that makes a busy morning shorter instead of longer.
