Our Favorite Dishwasher

By the time dinner is over in our house, the counter looks like a restaurant closed down around it. Eight people means eight plates, plus the mixing bowls, the sippy cups the little ones fling, and whatever pot Dad used for his famous too-much-pasta. For years we hand-washed in shifts, and someone was always elbow-deep at the sink long after the kids were in bed. We needed a machine that could just swallow the whole day in one go.

The one we landed on is the Kenmore 24-inch built-in, and the reason was simple math. Fifteen place settings means a full day of dishes for eight actually fits in a single run, so we load it once after cleanup and walk away. It runs quietly enough that we can start it during the bedtime wind-down without it drowning out story time, and it gets baked-on messes genuinely clean instead of just warm and rinsed.

We looked at a few flashier models with more cycles and touch panels, but most of them either held fewer dishes or charged a premium for features we would never touch. The Kenmore beat them on the thing that matters in a big household—capacity that keeps up—without pushing the price into territory we could not justify. It has been dependable load after load, the racks are sturdy enough to survive our loading “system,” and after a full day of feeding this crew, we press one button and the kitchen is done. For us, that quiet reliability was worth more than any bonus setting.
