A gadget earns a spot on this list only if it beats the old way on a busy weeknight. It has to be faster or better than what it replaces, easy enough to clean that it doesn’t sit dirty in the sink, and used often enough to justify the counter space. In a family of eight, anything fussy ends up in the garage.

For everyday cooking, there’s the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro and two Chefman air fryers: a big 8-quart basket and an air fryer oven with a rotisserie. For smoothies and frozen fruit, the Ninja Professional Blender. For drinks, two SodaStream makers, the Terra starter kit and the E-Duo upgrade. And for the coffee people, the Technivorm Moccamaster, a splurge for anyone serious about drip coffee.

The Chefman Electric Kettle at the top is the one we’d buy again first. It’s inexpensive, it gets used every morning, and it’s the easiest upgrade on this list.
