We Got Will a Meta Quest for His Birthday. Unfortunately, I Love It.

It turns out all I needed was a VR headset, Beat Saber, and the ability to pretend I’m the drummer in every song I’ve ever loved.

We got Will a Meta Quest for his birthday.

It was a very exciting present. He loved it. Huge success.

There was just one unexpected development:

I think it might actually be mine now.

Somehow, I discovered Beat Saber. And then I discovered that you can download songs I actually know. And then I discovered that if you put on a song you love and start whacking glowing blocks in virtual reality, you can very convincingly pretend that you are the drummer in the band.

And apparently this is my thing.

I am obsessed.

I put on the headset, pick one of my favorite songs, and spend the next few minutes enthusiastically drumming away at absolutely nothing while everyone else in the house gets to watch Mom waving her arms around in the living room.

I did not see this coming.

We bought Will a VR headset for his birthday, and somehow I ended up with a brand-new hobby.

Who would have guessed?

Sorry, Will. You can have it back eventually.
