first time at the rodeo

March 5th, 2012

Thought I’d share some pictures from our trip to the Houston Rodeo this weekend, since many of you guys have probably never been to one!  I had so, so much fun — I wish I’d brought my SLR so I could get some really good photos, but the iPhone plus Instagram combo is so much easier to lug around.  And obviously I had to keep my hands free for fried pickles, smoked turkey, and the best food that has ever been invented: Cookie Dough on a Stick.  (Yes, seriously.)

I went through a phase a few years ago where I really, really wanted a miniature pig — they’re so cute and they’re supposed to be as clean and sweet as dogs if you raise them in a house.  The only thing that held me back was I found out that even if you think you’re buying a miniature pig, they don’t always stop growing… so you might well end up with a pig this size instead.  Definitely not fit for a Manhattan apartment (or even a Houston backyard)!

The actual bull riding wasn’t really my thing, but the carnival games, heaps of fried food, cowboy hats, boots and baby animals were pretty great.  We didn’t actually stay for the afternoon’s concert, but I’m definitely going back for one before it ends!

{day-old baby chickens!}

{the best cotton candy}

{a bull and a calf}

{snuggling goats}

{every style of cowboy boots you could imagine}

{again: Cookie Dough.  On a Stick.}

    Looks like you had an absolute blast!  The cookie dough on a stick looks amazing, though everything else looks pretty neat as well (though maybe not to eat).  Thanks for sharing!

    How fun!  I actually went to the Houston rodeo when I was in middle school.  We flew out and spent like 3 or 4 days there I think and part of it was enjoyed at the rodeo – so much fun!  You look adorable!

    This looks like SO much fun! By the way – I def went through a mini pig phase in college where I was BEGGING my roommates to let me get one for a pet. There are soo many YouTube videos with people’s pet mini pigs and I used to obsess over them constantly! But, of course, I came to the same realization that you did – true “mini” pigs are hard to come by. Also – they’re so expensive! Aren’t they like, $3,000?

    So glad you had fun!!  The rodeo is a must do event atleast once if you live in Houston!  You must attend a concert to put the icing on the cake! Have fun!

    I went last year for the 1st time, deff was a crazy experience. I even tried frog legs :/
    Tim McGraw was worth all the sweat and dogging little people. And I loved the petting zoo, held a Joey for the 1st time.
