giveaway: nestle chocolate

September 24th, 2010

Walking home from work a few days ago, I started thinking about the fact that I’m at one of the few stages of life for which September doesn’t mean “back to school.”  There’s this minuscule period between being a kid and having your own kids — and while September still means shorter days and cooler nights, it doesn’t mean textbooks and teachers anymore.  Part of me was a little sad, this September, to miss out on that brand-new-year feeling!

Um, Katy, what does this have to do with that box of chocolate goodies I’m staring at?  Ok, well, first of all, I’m half apologizing — this was supposed to be a back to school giveaway and I kind of dropped the ball.  The reader package has been sitting in my apartment begging to be sent out since before Fashion Week, and I’m only just getting around to posting about it.

Second, this package from Nestle contained these totally adorable Mommy-sized and kid-sized aprons, and I couldn’t help but think about how cute it would be to have a little school-aged munchkin to put into the mini one.  Fortunately, I have a little semi-munchkin of my own:

Isn’t he a cutie pie?  Now onto more important matters — like how to win this package!  And what’s in it!

One lucky winner will receive the same package I received (don’t worry, a fresh, pristine one — my dog won’t have worn the apron you’re getting), which includes two cartons of Nestle mini-chocolate chip ice cream toppers, six coupons for free packages of Nestle chocolate chips and Tollhouse cookie dough, Mom- and kid-sized aprons, recipe cards, and other goodies from Nestle!

You can enter in two ways!

I’ll announce a randomly selected winner on Wednesday, September 29th!  Good luck!

I must admit…my love for chocolate chips has greatly increased since I have moved to Rwanda…they get me through my sickness. Don’t worry…if I win you don’t have to send it all the way here:) I’ll be sure my family puts in in my next package!

My mom recently sent a care package to my dorm room filled with magazines, apples from a local hometown orchard, and, of course, Nestle Tollhouse Cookies. I was the rock star of my building for a while, until they were all eaten up. Long live chocolate chips!

Chocolate chips make me think of my boyfriend. We’ve been together for over two years.  Like any relationship, we have our inside jokes, our own rituals, and our own memories — and I would have to say that making cookies and anything with chocolate chips together is one of the things that sticks out the most in my mind. While most college kids spend their nights eating cafeteria food and drinking beer from a frat cup, my boyfriend and I spent a lot of our time cooking.

He’s the only guy I have ever met that loves cooking, baking, and playing around in the kitchen. Early on in our relationship, I filled a jar of chocolate chips for him — and we spent the next months making everything from chocolate chip waffles to chocolate chip muffins. However, whenever we were too tired or busy to make something from scratch, we always relied on Tollhouse cookies from the local grocery store.

Looking back, our senior year was spent making cookies — in between law school applications and graduation plans. If we weren’t making the chocolate chip chocolate filled cookies, we were indulging on the peanut butter chocolate chip kind. It was a love affair — us two (in love with each other) in love with the cookies.

And I can’t tell you how much I miss all that right now. Currently, I’m living in California working as a Hollywood red carpet reporter and studying for the LSAT, and he is living in St. Louis attending law school at Washington University. We’re doing the long-distance thing, and of course, it’s incredibly difficult being apart.

No matter how sugary sweet it may sound, whenever I smell fresh cookies baking — I can’t help but think of him, and I know he can’t help but think of me.

I’ve started baking/cooking w my 4yo – this would be great, except that he’s figured out “one chocolate chip in the bowl, two in my mouth”. Plus, he only likes to stir for maybe two strokes before he’s bored. But then more yummy chocolate chips for me!
