Ingredients
- 1 cup hazelnut flour
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced
- 3/4 cup plus one tablespoon cold heavy cream
- 2 ounces dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- 1/3 cup chopped toasted hazelnuts
- Sugar, for dusting
Directions
- Heat the oven to 425 degrees F, and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the hazelnut flour, all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt with a whisk.
- Add the butter and work it in briskly, stopping when the bits are no larger than small peas. You can do this part in a food processor, too.
- Pour in the heavy cream and stir only until the dough comes together. Fold in the chocolate pieces and hazelnuts.
- Shape the dough into 12 balls. With a rolling pin, press them out quickly until they are about 1/2 inch thick, then set them on the lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the tops with sugar.
- Bake the scones for about 15 minutes, until they turn golden. Transfer them to a wire rack and let them cool.
