menswear gone glam

March 23rd, 2011

There are very few things that are hotter than menswear on a woman.  It’s not a look that I can pull off that much — it helps so much to be tall, or voluptuous, or a number of other characteristics that I’m decidedly not.  But when I was thinking about what to pair with this skirt (the same one from my Tory video earlier this week!), I found myself wandering over to Chad’s closet more than my own.

Enter: the men’s tuxedo shirt.  Even better would probably be to find a well-tailored women’s mock-tuxedo shirt, but for a look you’ll probably only wear once or twice, it’s a lot more cost-conscious to borrow one.

A little bit of double-stick tape is a necessity here — the sexy unbuttoned look is hot, wardrobe malfunctions are not.  Take it from a girl who’s had her share of mishaps with the low-V — a little tape upfront will save you a lot of embarrassment later on.

Also!  A little off the menswear kick, but Stylefind (In Style’s shopping site!) asked me for my “It” bag pick for 2011 — and I picked this amazing minimalist Chloe satchel!  Feel free to click on over there and vote for my pick, if you’re so inclined!

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. The Vote for the 11th “IT” Bag Contest is open to national fashion bloggers (“bloggers”) invited to participate from, that are legal residents of the 50 U.S. and the D.C., age 18 or older at time of entry, from 3/9-3/18/11. love this look.  menswear is a favorite of mine.  although for me in a decidedly annie hall sort of way, rather than a sexy/tom ford-ian sort of way.  helas…
How did Chad feel about you sneaking his shirt?!!?!?  ALSO who made your earrings?

I probably have a dozen white shirts. Love how versatile they are, and this look in particular is making me want to go home and change into 1!

There’s something chic about wearing a man’s button down shirt.. it has the perfect length that enhances a woman’s body.

Would you consider this outfit casual enough to wear everyday? Like for a glam person such as myself (and you of course) I’m asking because I have a sequin skirt that I never get to wear because it seems too fancy. =( but this is a good idea.

I’m not sure about doing this whole outfit during the day, but definitely the skirt on its own!  I’ve worn this skirt with oversized sweaters during the day all the time!  If you want to do the whole men’s-shirt look, I’d save it for nighttime probably. 🙂

thats a very good idea! maybe ill substitute the sweater for a oversize shirt, or a very light sweater, because where i live, the weather feels like summer!
