Prep 20 min · Cook 10 min · Total 30 min · Makes 8 naan

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 3 tablespoons melted butter or ghee, clarified butter
- 1/4 cup warm water, plus more as needed
Directions
- Set the oven to 400°F (200°C). Coat a baking sheet with butter or ghee so the naan will release easily.
- In a large bowl, stir the warm water with the melted butter or ghee, yogurt, salt, baking soda, baking powder and sugar until everything is evenly blended.
- Work in the flour a little at a time, mixing until the dough comes together and feels soft. If it seems dry, splash in additional warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the texture is right. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, until it becomes smooth and stretchy.
- Cut the dough into 8 even portions. Roll each portion into an oval about 1/4 inch thick, then arrange the naan on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the breads are puffed and browned. Serve warm with your favorite curry dish.
