Easy Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
This quick, easy, fluffy, spreadable, pipeable, food-dye-able, not-too-sweet, but totally delicious vanilla buttercream frosting is a baker’s dream! This is your go-to buttercream frosting!

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2-4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of kosher salt
Directions
- Place the butter in the bowl of a stand mixer, or use a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer, and beat it until it’s smooth and creamy.
- Add 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of heavy cream. Mix on low until the sugar has worked its way into the butter, then scrape the bowl. Increase the mixer to high and beat for 1 minute. Scrape the bowl again, then do the same thing with the remaining 2 cups of powdered sugar and another 1 tablespoon of cream.
- Add the vanilla and salt, and beat until everything is combined. If the frosting feels too firm, mix in an additional 1-2 tablespoons of cream at a time. You’re looking for buttercream that can hold a peak, but still spreads easily.
