2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 cups beef broth
3 star anise pods
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
8 ounces rice noodles, cooked according to package instructions
