Old-Time Eastern North Carolina Barbecue Sauce
After spending the weekend in the Raleigh area of North Carolina, eating my way from Allen & Son to Ed Mitchell's The Pit, I'm proud to say that I'm a full-fledged North Carolina 'cue…

Ingredients
- 1 gallon cider vinegar
- 1 1/3 cup crushed red pepper
- 2 tablespoons black pepper
- 1/4 cup salt
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper.
- Slowly add the cider vinegar to the mixture while stirring continuously.
- Once all of the ingredients are combined, transfer the sauce to an airtight container and store in a cool place for up to two weeks.
- When ready to use, heat the sauce over medium-low heat until it reaches a simmer.
- Simmer for 10 minutes before serving with your favorite barbecue dish.
