Ingredients

3 lbs golden delicious apples

1 1/2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

1/3 cup packed light-brown sugar

2 tsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup apple juice

1/4 cup

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

10 Tbsp

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 Tbsp

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°F . Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for the topping. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, 10 tablespoons of cold diced butter, vanilla extract, salt, baking soda, baking powder, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar and all-purpose flour until combined. The mixture should be thick and slightly lumpy. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of diced butter with the apple juice, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and cornstarch until combined. Add in the light-brown sugar and lemon juice and stir until combined. Peel and core the apples then cut them into thin slices . Arrange the apple slices on top of the batter in an even layer then pour over the apple juice mixture over top of them. Sprinkle over the reserved cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over top of everything.
