seventies style

So, here's the thing, lately. You cannot talk to a designer without hearing that they're inspired by the seventies. I don't know exactly when this happened, but it's suddenly everywhere.

And I've never been much of a seventies girl -- I'm all about the modern incarnation of it, but the actual seventies, with the feathered haircuts and polyester suits, kind of always struck me as a fashion wasteland. But what is fashion except an excuse to reinterpret what went wrong in past decades and make it updated and cute in the present?

So when J. Brand sent me these flare jeans, I figured I'd embrace the seventies vibe with this paisley shirt. I kept the makeup and accessories simple and natural, because sometimes these seventies-type outfits feel a little costume-y, and I just wanted this to look fresh and modern. I've been living in these Nine West espadrilles -- they're insanely comfortable and just becoming weather-appropriate!
