Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 yellow onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 lb ground beef
- 15 oz can kidney beans
- 15 oz can black beans
- 15 oz can diced tomatoes
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp cayenne powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp Freshly ground pepper
Directions
- Chop the onion into dice and finely mince the garlic. Warm the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat, then add the onion and garlic and cook until softened and translucent. Add the ground beef and keep cooking, stirring as needed, until the meat is completely browned.
- Drain the beans, then add them to the pot with the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, 1 cup water, and the full chili seasoning mixture. Stir everything together until the pot looks evenly combined. Cover the pot, turn the heat to low, and let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring now and then.
- Taste the chili once more, then adjust the salt or seasonings if it needs a little more balance. Serve it hot with your favorite toppings.
