Slow Cooker Chinese Pulled Pork
Tender slow-cooked pork in a glossy hoisin, ginger and garlic sauce makes sweet-savory sliders with scallions on soft rolls.

Ingredients
- 3 to 3 1/2 pounds pork shoulder, cut into very large chunks
- 2 1/2 teaspoons of Chinese 5-spice powder
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp dry sherry or Shaoxing cooking wine
- 2 Tbsp minced fresh ginger
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
- 1 large scallion sliced
Directions
- Season the pork with 5-spice powder, working the 5 spice powder over every side of the pork pieces, then set the meat aside while you mix the sauce.
- In a medium bowl, stir the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, sherry, ginger, and garlic until smooth and combined.
- Set the seasoned pork shoulder chunks in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over the top.
- Cook until the pork is tender enough to separate easily, using 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. When the cooking time is roughly halfway done, flip the pieces in the slow cooker.
- Spoon away the extra fat that has collected on top with a ladle or a large metal spoon. Hold onto it for the moment, since a little may be useful.
- With 2 forks, tear the pork into shreds. If the meat looks a bit dry, mix some of the reserved fat back in.
- Pile the pork onto sweet Hawaiian dinner buns and finish with sliced green onion or cilantro.
