Ingredients
- 1 pint sweet cream or vanilla ice cream
- 10 ounces frozen strawberries, thawed
- 12 turns on the peppermill of black pepper
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed orange juice
- 1/2 cup water
Directions
- Pull the ice cream from the freezer so it can soften a bit. Add the strawberries, black pepper, sugar, orange juice, and water to a food processor, then pulse until the sauce is mostly smooth with some pieces of fruit still hanging around.
- Transfer the strawberry mixture to a medium saucepot. Set it over medium heat and cook until it starts to bubble, then let it simmer until it looks cohesive and a little thicker, about 4 minutes.
- Take the sauce off the heat and let it cool to room temperature, or just slightly warm. Divide 4 large scoops of sweet cream ice cream among 4 bowls. Spoon the cooled strawberry-pepper sauce over the top, add a simple cookie, and serve immediately.
