what a week

September 23rd, 2011

What a week!  It’s crazy to think that on Monday morning, we were in our apartment in the West Village, barely even starting to pack.  Within 24 hours, all our worldly possessions (except the dogs) were on a truck heading to Texas, and we were in Houston, safe and sound!

Moving always has some hiccups, but ours has actually gone smoothly so far (knock on wood, since that truck with all of our furniture is still on the way)!  We’re slowly getting settled in our new apartment — we’re renting for nine months to give us a little time to find a permanent place!  It’s shockingly different from our Manhattan apartment — brand new and spotless, with a wraparound balcony and a special spot where we can plug in our iPhones and play music throughout the living room!

And the best part is the beautiful new kitchen — and the fact that we’ll be across the street from Whole Foods!  I can’t wait for our pots and pans to arrive so I can get started putting it to good use.

If you guys follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen most of these photos already, but for those of you that don’t, here’s what I’ve been up to this week!

{our apartment in NYC looked so much smaller without the furniture!  i painted this room myself two years ago and fell in love with this cheery blue}

{amazing airport reading — my photo in the October issue of Cosmopolitan!}

{calvin was so good on the plane, but he kept poking his head out of the carrier and not wanting to get back in}

{it kind of feels like we live at a resort in our new building — i’m clearly going to be spending a lot of time on the rooftop pool}

{first texas meal: cheeseburger and guacamole, yum}

{my new car!  i’m too scared to drive it for now — poor chad has been chauffeuring me around.  you know you’ve lived in nyc too long when you’re thinking about taking driver’s ed again!}

    Looks like the move has been a great idea! I hope the truck will arrive without hiccups so you can get properly settled!

    And congrats for the Cosmo mention!

    I’m glad the move has gone so smoothly (so far!). Houston drivers are crazy… I don’t blame you for being super cautious after so long in NYC. πŸ™‚ I hope you’re enjoying Texas so far!

    Welcome to Houston!!!  Glad you got here safe and sound.  Driving in that area is ok, just know that around 5-6p that area can be crazy.  You should go to Petite Sweet and have some macaron and coffee.  It’s on West Alabama, down the street from Whole Foods.  Enjoy!

    Congrats on all the big changes and new additions! I don;t think I’d ever leave an apartment if it had a rooftop pool like that πŸ™‚

    I’m so excited for you! This sounds like it’s going to be a great transition! (It’s always nice when the transition means moving into a NICER place, as opposed to the other way around…) Can’t wait to hear what the future brings for you!

    oh my Gah! It sounds like you’re living in that awesome apartment complex across from whole foods that I always drool at… with the store tootsies in the same building. I’m just around the corner! Crazy!

    I’m so happy that everything got done pretty smoothly!  Moving is so stressful, isn’t it?  The kitchen looks positively stunning, that’s so cool it has a place to plug in your ipod. πŸ™‚

    I’m so happy for you! I know the move was hard and you loved NYC – but trust mee, you are going to love love Texas! It is such a fun state and has so much to offer. I’m pretty familiar with Austin – it’s in my top two favorite cities by far. Next time I visit we will have to meet up!

    ItΒ΄s great the the move has been smooth. When your cargos arrive and things get settled in place, life will get much better. Take one day at a time.

    Found out and started following your blog as soon as you left “you know where” LLP. (Good thing because I would have been asking you a million questions relating to the blog as opposed to the other nonsense that occupied the 9-5 timeslot.) Anyway, glad to see you are all settled in and looking forward to future postings!
