Ingredients
- For the cinnastix topping:
- 1 3/4 ounces all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 ounces turbinado sugar
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated zest from 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3 ounces unsalted butter, cut into small cubes and chilled
- 1 box Domino's CinnaStix, cut into 1/2-inch dice
- 1/2 portion of CinnaStix icing
- For the apples:
- 4 medium Golden Delicious, Gala, or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 tablespoons bourbon, rye, or Scotch whiskey
Directions
- For the topping, stir the flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon zest, and salt together in a large bowl. Add the cold butter cubes, then rub everything together with your hands until the butter is broken down and the mixture forms little pea-like bits. Add half of the icing cup and the diced CinnaStix, then gently fold until the topping starts to hold together.
- For the apples, place the apples in a large bowl with the sugar, cornstarch, salt, and whiskey, and toss until everything is evenly coated. Move the fruit into the baking dish, then scatter the topping over it, making sure the CinnaStix cubes are tucked into the buttery mixture so they do not burn. Cover the dish snugly with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Take off the foil and bake again until the top is deeply browned and feels set, about 25 minutes more. Pull the crisp from the oven and cool it for at least 10 minutes before serving.
- For the garnish, spoon the remaining CinnaStix icing into a small ziplock bag. Snip off one corner to make a very small opening. Use gentle, steady pressure to drizzle the icing over the cooled crisp.
