Ingredients
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni
- 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- Pinch chili pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 large can of diced tomatoes
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Directions
- Fill a large pot with hot salted water, using 1 tablespoon of salt for 2 quarts of water, and cook the macaroni according to the package instructions. While the water heats and the pasta cooks, start the sauce.
- Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until it browns, stirring only occasionally so the meat has a chance to take on color.
- Once the beef is mostly browned, add the onions and stir to combine. Continue cooking until the onions are tender, about 4-6 minutes.
- Stir in the celery seed, a dash of crushed red pepper and the seasoned salt. Add the canned tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce, mix well, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Before draining the pasta, save 1/2 cup of the cooking water. Stir the drained, cooked macaroni into the skillet with the parsley, then cook for another 5 minutes. If the mixture seems dry, add some of the reserved pasta water.
- Taste and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
