How to Make Fruit Leather

Ingredients

  • 3 cups washed, pitted, chopped fruit
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • A pinch of the spice of your choice

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to its lowest setting, usually 150 degrees F or 200 degrees F, with a rack set in the center; anything up to 200 degrees F will work. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, then mist it lightly with cooking spray if you like, which makes peeling a little easier.
  2. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until you have a mostly smooth puree.
  3. Transfer the puree to the prepared baking sheet. Gently tip the pan from side to side so the mixture spreads into a thin, even layer.
  4. Bake until the fruit leather feels just a bit sticky when touched, but lifts away from the parchment without much trouble. The timing depends on the fruit and how juicy it is, so expect anywhere from 2 to 8 hours and trust what you see and feel.
