Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey meat, preferably dark meat
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup loosely packed cilantro leaves and fine stems, roughly chopped
- 3 medium cloves garlic, minced or grated with a Microplane
- 1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 ripe Hass avocados, pitted
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Pinch of dried red chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon fresh juice from 1 lemon
- 4 leaves Boston lettuce
- Sprouts, such as radish sprouts, for garnish
- 4 burger buns, toasted
Directions
- Add the turkey, salt, pepper, cilantro, and garlic to a mixing bowl, then use a gentle hand to bring everything together only until mixed. Shape the mixture into 4 patties, keeping them loose rather than tightly packed.
- Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it just begins to smoke. Set the patties in the pan and cook them until the outside is well browned and crisp, about 6 minutes on each side. Take them off the heat and let them rest.
- In a medium bowl, mash the avocado with the cumin, chili flakes, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste. Arrange the lettuce on the bottom halves of the buns, then layer on the burger patties, avocado mash, and sprouts. Add the top buns and serve right away.
