My Uncle's Salsa
A quick tomato salsa with fresh chiles, cilantro, lime and chili powder, blended as smooth or chunky as you like for chips or tacos.
Prep 15 min · Makes about 4 cups

Ingredients
- 1 can tomatoes
- 2 Serrano peppers, diced Be sure and either wear gloves or wash your hands immediately after chopping the peppers so you don't burn other parts of yourself.
- 1 cup of cilantro leaves
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup diced onion
- 2 tablespoons of chili powder
- Salt to taste
- A dash of sugar
- Juice from 1/2 lime
Directions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the lime juice, sugar, salt and chili powder until the salt and sugar have disappeared into the liquid.
- Add the onion, garlic, cilantro leaves and peppers, then stir so everything is evenly coated.
- Spoon in the tomatoes and mix until the salsa comes together.
- Taste it, then tweak the seasoning if it needs a little more balance.
- Move the mixture into a blender or food processor and process until it looks the way you want it, whether chunky or smoother. An immersion blender works here too.
- Serve with chips, or spoon it over tacos, burritos or other Mexican dishes.
