Ingredients
- 2 cups slivered almonds, or chopped walnuts, hazelnuts, or pecans
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 10 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter, diced
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons beaten egg
- 1 cup jam, any flavor
- 1 1/4 cups berries, or chopped pitted cherries, peaches, or plums
Directions
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Put 1/4 cup of the nuts in a medium bowl and set it aside. Add the remaining 1 3/4 cups nuts to a food processor, sprinkle in the sugar, and pulse until the nuts are roughly ground.
- Add the butter, flour, cinnamon, and salt, then pulse again until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Measure out 1 cup of this flour mixture and stir it into the bowl with the reserved nuts.
- Add the egg to the flour mixture left in the processor, and pulse just until the dough starts to hold together. Move it into a 9-inch round tart pan with a removable bottom, then press it in an even layer across the base and up the sides. Bake for 15 minutes, just until you see it starting to brown.
- While the crust bakes, combine the jam and berries in a medium bowl. With your fingers, rub the reserved nut mixture together until it gathers into little clumps.
- Take the tart out of the oven and smooth the jam mixture across the bottom. Scatter the nut mixture over the top, then return the tart to the oven and bake for 15 minutes, until the topping is pale golden brown. Let the tart cool fully in the pan on a wire rack.
