Simple Sweet and Sour Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Directions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a small pot, then whisk until both the sugar and cornstarch are fully dissolved. At this point, the sauce should look a little cloudy and light brown.
  2. Set the pot over medium heat and keep whisking as it warms, just until the sauce starts to simmer. As soon as it simmers, the cornstarch will tighten the mixture, and the sauce will change from hazy to glossy. Use it right away.
  3. Serve the sweet and sour sauce right away, or chill it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
