Spiced Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon spiced rum

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries with both sugars, the water, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, allspice, Kosher salt, nutmeg, and cloves. Set the pan over medium heat and bring everything to a boil, then continue cooking, giving it a stir now and then, until the cranberries begin to burst, about 10 minutes.
  2. Take the pan off the heat, mix in the spiced rum, and allow the sauce to cool for 30 minutes. If it seems thicker than you want, loosen it with additional water as needed. Serve it right away, or transfer it to an airtight container, refrigerate it, and reheat before serving.
