Sweet and Salty Super Bowl Brownies

Ingredients

  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped roasted peanuts
  • 1 caramel chocolate candy bar, coarsely chopped
  • 1 snack sized bag of pretzels, crushed into small pieces

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square pan, or line it with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder, then set that bowl aside.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring often so the chocolate does not scorch. Take the pan off the heat, then beat in the sugar and eggs.
  3. Add the flour and baking powder mixture, stirring until everything is well combined. Fold in the nuts and chopped chocolate caramel bar.
  4. Stir in the pretzel pieces at the end, mixing just long enough to distribute them. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the surface looks matte and crusted, and a light touch leaves a faint mark. Let the brownies cool a bit, then cut them into squares.
