Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups white whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup oatmeal, ground
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup buttermilk, plus a tablespoon or more if needed to moisten all flour
Directions
- Heat the oven to 425 F. Coat a small baking sheet with oil or nonstick spray.
- In a plastic bowl, stir together the flour, ground oatmeal, baking soda, and salt.
- Using a large plastic spoon, work in the buttermilk until everything is evenly mixed.
- Flour your hands, then gather the dough into a ball. Shape it as needed to fit your small baking sheet, including a slightly oblong shape if that works best.
- Bake the loaf until the top turns golden, about 35-40 minutes.
- Serve it warm. This bread has the best texture soon after it comes out of the oven.
