Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1.5 cups long grain jasmine rice
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 cups water
Directions
- Put the butter and cumin seeds in a medium sauce pot. Cook them over medium-low heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring, until the butter just begins to take on a golden color. Don’t push it past that point, because burned butter is not the plan here.
- Stir the uncooked rice into the pot and cook for another 2-3 minutes, continuing to move it around so the grains get lightly toasted.
- Mince the garlic, then add it to the pot with the salt and water. Stir everything together, cover the pot, raise the heat to high, and bring the liquid to a boil.
- When the pot is boiling, lower the heat to low and simmer it, still covered, for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and leave the covered pot alone for 10 more minutes.
- After the rice has rested for 10 minutes, take off the lid, loosen the grains with a fork, and serve.
